The Tampa Bay Rays tie series against the New York Yankees with a three-run homer by Matt Joyce off closer David Robinson late in the ninth. Joyce inadvertently rolled his ankle after driving the ball on a 1-2 count, but seems to be ok, and is probable for tomorrow’s game in the Bronx.
With Mariano Rivera out for the remained or the season Robertson stepped up to be the new closer for the Yankees. Last night he escaped a bases-loaded jam to save the Yanks from yet another loss to the Rays, but 24 hours later spectators wonder if he is just a stroke of luck, or as Yankee Manager Joe Girardi, “He is a kid, and we need to give him a chance. Anytime you move up in a role it’s an adjustment, but I have a ton of confidence in him, and know he is going to bounce back.”
The Rays bull pin added another win with Fernando Rodney picking up his 9th save and lowering his ERA to an astonishing .066 for the year. Moving the season series to 4-1 Tampa lead. CC Sabathia will try and end this series with a win tomorrow night and increase his record to 5-0 for the season.
